Welcome to the Douglas Community 2021/22

2–3 minutes

Hello and bonjour everyone! Welcome to the new school year. I hope everyone has a good Summer. We are officially more than a week into our children’s school year. Has everyone adjusted to the school routines yet?

I want to send a warm welcome to families joining or rejoining us through Kindergarten, Grade 1, late French Immersion Grade 6, and students learning from home last year. Around the school grounds, we are sensing happiness, joy, optimism, and purpose. I hope that we will continue to trend upwards and wish everyone a fruitful school year.

In October, we will be starting the Hot Lunch Program. Lunches can be pre-ordered through Munch a Lunch (it will go live in the next week or so), and on those lunch days, hot lunches will be individually packed and delivered to classes to enjoy. We will be needing 5 to 8 hot lunch volunteers for about 1.5 hours per session. If you are interested, kindly contact our hot lunch coordinator Niva at jdmainhotlunch@gmail.com or sign up through Munchalunch later. First hotlunch will be at the Main school on October 15th. Annex will have confirmation next week.

Many hands make small works, your time is always appreciated.

Our first PAC General meeting is via ZOOM on October 4th, 2021 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. Please save the date. Link to our meeting will be available next week.

On November 16th and 17th, we will once again be having our Family Photo Nights. Sign up is $25 per 15 minutes seating and you will be able to find a time slot that works for you through Munchalunch. Families who attended all had a great time and memories.

Get ahead of the game. Our Purdy’s Chocolate Fall Fundraiser is already set up. We can jumpstart our fundraising journey by purchasing Purdy’s Chocolates before the holiday rush. Hit this link https://fundraising.purdys.com/join.aspx to login if you are a returning customer, or join with a new login and make sure to enter the campaign number “2716“.  Happy Shopping!  (Downloadable catalog here)

The Mabel’s Label sticker program is also set up.  Visit www.campaigns.mabelslabels.com and search for Sir James Douglas Elementary School PAC (Vancouver). It’s a easy fundraiser for the PAC.

Back in June of 2021, some of our students at the Annex had a 2 week workshop with Dare2Dance, a dance and literacy education program. Students and teachers raved about their experience. We want to thank you to the participated classes for gifting us back your experience in this beautiful art. We hope to bring this wonderful program back for other classes to experience this year. Merci!!

Please look for a few more emails coming your way in the next week as we help set you up with Munchalunch and update other notices. For graduated families who no longer wish to receive our email, you can unsubscribe or forward to a new family below.

Take care everyone.
