Note: kids in french immersion K-3 will remain at the Annex and it not impacted
Hello Douglas Families,
On Friday, December 30, the school administration informed parents and caregivers about the relocation plans for the Douglas Main school. The temporary school sites are Moberly for English grade K-5s, Trudeau for English grade 6s and 7s and South Hill Swing Space for all French Immersion (grade 4-7s).
We know there are some concerns from parents and caregivers about the distance of the temporary sites to the existing school, lack of transportation, and access to before-and-after school childcare programs.
As school resumes on January 5, we need to hear from parents and caregivers about the challenges you are facing and how we can support Douglas Families. Here’s how you can provide your input:
- Let the school administration know about any concerns you may have. Please email Kevin Land (kland@vsb.bc.ca) and Meghan Gomes (mgomes@vsb.bc.ca) and let them know what school site your child will attend and your specific concerns (i.e., distance form your home, distance form before/after school care, children now at multiple sites, mobility challenges for caregivers and/or children, etc.). Please also cc the PAC at thedouglaspac@gmail.com.
- Fill out the PAC survey. The PAC will be running a survey between January 7 and January 14 to get feedback on specific concerns, so that we can work with the school administration on possible solutions. This survey will be circulated via email, so please look for it on Saturday.
- Attend the PAC meeting on Monday, January 16from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The administration will be in attendance to answer questions from parents and caregivers, and our intention is to focus this meeting on the relocation and next steps for repairs to Douglas Elementary.
Thank you to everyone in our community as we continue to navigate this challenging and stressful situation.
